CONVERSATION ANALYSIS
A. CONTEXT
The conversation is between Yeni and Sari in a
boarding house. When Sari in bedroom, Yeni comes and asks what they will do in
this evening. They plan to go to “Sekaten”, but sari has a little problem about
money, sari didn’t have money. And then, Yeni lend a money to Sari. Finally,
Sari and Yeni go to the “Sekaten” in this evening. They waste their time there.
They hunting many accessories that they want, looking for the delicious food
and walking around there to find interest something. They are very happy in
this evening.
Dialog Transcription
Yeni :
Sari, what shall we do this evening?
Sari :
Have you been to the “Sekaten”?
Yeni :
Not, not yet, and you?
Sari : Me
too, I haven’t been there yet. Why don’t we go there this evening?
Yeni :
Yes, that’s a good idea.
Sari :
But,
Yeni :
But what?
Sari :
But, I haven’t got money.
Yeni : Don’t
worry about money, shall I lend you some.
Sari :
Yes, please. Can I borrow one hundred thousand rupiahs?
Yeni :
Yes, of course. Here you are.

about money. How about you to go the “Sekaten” right now?

So, in there I want to buy a money box which the violet color.
Yeni : Oh,
it’s beautiful color, I also like violet.

C. ANALYSIS
1.
Character and Characterization of the Speaker
From
the
conversation it can be inferred that Yeni is good persons,caring and helpful to each other. In this conversation like as a sentence 9 “Don’t
worry about money--- shall I lend you some” from this statement indicates that
yeni is a helpful person. Sari is also a type of helpful person, it show in
sentence 22 “May I help you to look for your motorcycle key”. From this
sentence indicates that sari also helpful person to each other. Sari is type of
passive person because she is patient to wait (three second) for intended
speaker (Yeni), it show in sentence number 14 “((0,3)) it’s all right. Emm:: by
the way, what will you buy in there?”. They also type of wasteful person it
should have consideration in topic of their conversation; it’s about planning
to hang out. It show in sentence 1 “Sari--- what shall we do this evening?”.
They will buy not important things, so it indicated that they are wasteful
person. The example in sentence 15 From Yeni “I want to buy some wall ornament.
What about you? “And sentence number 16 From Sari “I need a money box to save
my money. So, aa:: in there I want to buy a money box which the violet color”.
Besides, they are too
enthusiastic in speech
and relaxed in the conversation.
2.
Aspect of Conversation
a.
The participation of
each speakers include high considerateness style because our
conversation non-interrupting, non-imposing way of taking part in conversation.
b.
The speakers
of this conversation are tolerant each other. In this conversation use
pause ((0,3)). It show in sentence number 14 “((0,3)) it’s all right. Emm:: by the
way, what will you buy in there?”.
c.
It also uses the uppercase aims to emphasize
utterance intended. In order to it is an important topic. It show in sentence 2
“Have you been to the
“SEKATEN”?”. The word “SEKATEN” is important so, it write different than the
other word. In sentence 19 “Oh MY GOD, where is my motorcycle key? I’m
forgetting where I put it!” The sentences MY GOD also write different than the
other word. And also sentence 25 “REALLY?” it is include important topic in
this conversation.
d.
In
this conversation use backhannels, In sentence 8 “emm:::, but I haven’t’ got a
money”. The word “ emm.. is response to the utterance from Yeni. In sentence 17
“Ohh, it’s beautiful color, I also like violet. Let’s GO, are you READY?
((Stand up)). The word “Ohh”, it’s including a backhannels.
e.
Insertion
Sequence which is a two part sequence that come between the first and the
second part of another sequence in conversation. See sentence 3 is insertion
of “ and YOU?”. See sentence 15 contain
of answer and insertion of question “What about YOU? “

The second utterance is a response to the first Yeni
utterance has the form as invitation. See sentence number 1 “What shall we do
this evening?” , and see sentence 2 “ Have you been to the “sekaten”?. It is
include as invitation. Look at sentence 10 “Yes, please! Emm::: can I borrow one hundred thousand
RUPIAHS?”. It is request. See sentence 15 “I want to buy some wall ornament.
What about YOU?” as a question for her friend and sentence 16 “: I need a money
box to save my money. So, aa:: in there I want to buy a money box which the
violet color”. As the answer from the question. See sentence 19
“Oh MY GOD, where is my motorcycle key? I’m forgetting where I put it!”
as a shocked expression. See sentence 20 “PLEASE! REMEMBER where you are put
it!” as the answer. See sentence 22 “May I help you to look for your motorcycle
KEY?”. It is an offering and sentence 23 “Yes, please!, as the response from
the sentence 22.
